There’s a side to Hall Farm in winter that I absolutely love.
On a frosty morning, the grass crunches underfoot as you head out in your warmest coat and wellies. The horses come over to investigate, usually with very cold noses hoping for a carrot, while the sheep appear through the mist in the fields. It’s peaceful, beautiful and a world away from the usual rush of everyday life.
Of course, not every winter morning brings a frost. Sometimes it’s muddy boots and a rather grey sky! But November to February has its own charm here, and I think it’s a lovely time to escape to the countryside for a couple of nights. Watching the view across the fields towards Wellsborough is one of my favourite things about this time of year. The colours change constantly, and those soft greens and blues have even found their way into the interiors of our retreats.
You can head out for a walk, find a cosy pub for lunch and come back to your own private hot tub. And if the weather really isn’t playing ball, there’s nothing wrong with staying in and making the most of your retreat instead.

One of the lovely things about staying here is that you can set off on foot without getting in the car first.
There is a public footpath directly accessible from the farm, and we’re right on the Bosworth 1485 Sculpture Trail. You can take a short wander along the farm track to see the animals or head further out into the countryside and on to the Ashby Canal with towpath routes in both directions.
The canal is particularly lovely for a walk, and you can make your way towards Stoke Golding or further towards Sutton Cheney. Just remember that our farm tracks and some of the paths can get very muddy after rain. Wellies really are your friend at this time of year!
If you’d rather drive somewhere for a longer walk, Market Bosworth Country Park is only around eight minutes away. For a change of scenery, you could head to Hartshill Hayes or Bradgate Park, both worth considering for a countryside walk further afield.
Do check conditions before setting off, especially after heavy rain or during icy weather.
You can find more ideas in our Local Walks & Routes guide and our Out & About guide.

You don’t have to go far to enjoy a little countryside life.
We love seeing the horses, alpacas and sheep on a misty morning, particularly when the fields are frosty. If you have a camera, bring it — some of our favourite photographs are taken right here at home. We love it when guests tag us in their insta pics 📷
The animals are often curious when people pass by. Although we do ask guests not to feed them, they’re particularly good at looking as though they’re starving, even when they’re absolutely fine!
Once you’ve had your fill of fresh air, you can head back to your retreat, warm up and decide what the day holds. There’s no need to turn every morning into a long walk.

After a walk in the cold, I think a cosy pub is hard to beat.
The George & Dragon in Stoke Golding is one of the nearest traditional pubs and is easily walkable from Hall Farm. It’s associated with Church End Brewery and is a good option for a drink in front of the open fire after exploring the local lanes. The walk back is uphill in places, so do bear that in mind.
For a meal out, there are other options a short drive away, including pubs and restaurants around Market Bosworth and the surrounding villages. We’ve put together our own guide to local favourites, including places for a casual drink and somewhere a little more special for dinner.
Have a look at our guide to the best pubs near Hall Farm before your stay and our Gastro tour guide for even more information and my current favourites. We always recommend checking opening times and food service directly, as these can change, especially during the winter months.
And if the weather is absolutely dreadful? You can always order a takeaway and stay put. We have plenty of food delivery options in the area, so you don’t need to venture out every evening.
If you’re visiting before Christmas, you could make an evening trip to Hinckley for its festive lights.
🎄Lights in the Mead is scheduled to run in Argents Mead from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027.
There are also lots of festive markets and Christmas lights experiences not too far away which I’ll share in my next blog coming in November.
✨But for now, one of my favourite places to nip to feel a little festive is Gates Garden Centre. A destination in itself, it has everything from decs and lights, to gifts and even turkey! You could combine a festive outing with a meal or a little Christmas shopping, then leave the crowds behind and head back to your own retreat.
This is probably my favourite part of a winter break.
You’ve been out in the cold, your cheeks are rosy and your boots are ready to come off. Then you can hang up your robe, step into your own private hot tub, feel the warmth and watch the steam rise into the chilly air.
All four of our retreats have their own hot tub and outdoor space, so you can enjoy it in private. On a clear evening, you might even get a good view of the stars. Each retreat has its own character, but they all have the comforts you’d want for a winter stay, including heating, a well-equipped kitchen, smart TVs, fluffy robes and Bramley toiletries.
And there’s no need to plan a big evening. A simple supper, a film and a comfortable bed can be just the ticket after a day outside.
Winter mornings are also a good excuse to take your time.
If you fancy a proper breakfast without the shopping, you can pre-order one of our breakfast baskets, including our Crusty Bread and Eggs Hamper or Full English Breakfast Hamper. We’ll arrange your order for your stay, provided you give us at least 48 hours’ notice.
Alternatively, make yourself a coffee, cook something in your kitchen and enjoy the view. You can always head out later if you feel like exploring.
We have four individual retreats for two adults, each with its own private hot tub and outdoor space.
Have a look at the individual property pages to see which one suits you best.
