Cosy country pubs, real ale, roaring fires, great food and a gentle stroll through the Leicestershire countryside — what could be better after a day exploring the Bosworth Battlefield area?
One of the things we love most about Hall Farm Dadlington is our location.
We’re tucked away in the tiny village of Dadlington, surrounded by open countryside, at the very heart of England, yet within easy reach of some lovely independent pubs, restaurants and places to eat.
So, if you’re staying in one of our luxury adults-only hot tub cabins in Leicestershire and fancy swapping your slippers for a pair of walking boots, here’s our guide to some of our favourite local pubs.
And yes, a couple are close enough that you can enjoy a drink and walk home!
A little reminder: opening days and food service can change, particularly at smaller country pubs, so we always recommend checking directly or booking with the pub before setting off — especially if you’re planning dinner.

If you’re looking for a proper village pub with plenty of character, the George & Dragon is a great place to start.
Walk down the lane from Hall Farm, past the canal and into Stoke Golding and you’ll eventually find this lovely traditional pub at the heart of the village.
It’s particularly good for those who appreciate real ale and traditional country pubs. The George is associated with Church End Brewery and has a welcoming bar, beer garden and, in colder months, a lovely real fire.
Food is generally served at lunchtime Tuesday to Saturday, with the pub also hosting occasional events, live music and pop-up food offerings. You’ll often find tempting bar snacks too — including sausage rolls, pork pies and Scotch eggs.
It’s the sort of pub where you can happily sit with a pint, chat to the locals and feel like you’ve discovered a little corner of rural Leicestershire that hasn’t changed too much.
Our tip: it’s an easy walk there, but remember that Stoke Golding is slightly uphill on the way back to Hall Farm! There is a longer flatter route back along the main road loop back to Dadlington rather than back up the lane.
For sports, darts, pool and a lively village-pub atmosphere.

Just along Stoke Golding’s High Street you’ll find the Three Horseshoes, which has a rather different atmosphere to the George & Dragon.
This is the one we’d suggest if you’re looking for somewhere to watch the match, play darts or have a game of pool.
It’s a friendly, lively village pub and a popular choice for a more informal evening.
And there’s another reason to know where it is…
The Three Horseshoes is also home to The Mango Tree, an Indian restaurant and takeaway situated at the rear of the pub.
So you can have a drink in the pub and enjoy an Indian meal without needing to head anywhere else.
It’s particularly handy if one of you fancies a pub atmosphere while the other is craving a curry!
You’ll also find Roast & Radish in the car park at the Three Horseshoes.
This independent coffee cabin is a lovely option for daytime coffee, brunch, cake or a casual daytime bite, with covered seating available.
So this little corner of Stoke Golding is actually rather useful — pub, sports, Indian food and coffee all in one place.
We’re very excited about this one.
The White Swan in Stoke Golding is currently undergoing refurbishment and there are big plans for a new restaurant and outdoor space.
We’re keeping everything crossed that it reopens soon because having another great village pub just a short walk from Hall Farm would be fantastic for our guests — and wonderful for Stoke Golding too.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the progress and will update this guide when we know more.

And then there’s the pub that’s literally on our doorstep.
The Dog & Hedgehog sits opposite our beautiful little village church of St James here in Dadlington and has always been part of village life.
At the moment it is closed following the retirement of the previous landlord, but we’re very much hoping that the pub will find new owners and reopen its doors.
It would be wonderful to see our little village pub buzzing again — and we’d love nothing more than for our guests to be able to wander across the village green for a drink.

If you’re celebrating something, fancy dressing up a little, or simply want really good food, this is one of our favourites.
The Hercules Revived is a beautifully restored 17th-century coaching inn in the village of Sutton Cheney, just a few minutes’ drive from Hall Farm.
It’s particularly special because of its setting close to Bosworth Battlefield, and the pub itself has a fascinating connection to local history. The name Hercules comes from the famous racehorse Hercules, owned by the Dixie family of Market Bosworth in the 18th century.
Today, it’s an award-winning gastropub serving seasonal, locally sourced food, with an impressive wine list and a more sophisticated restaurant feel upstairs.
There’s also outdoor dining, making it a lovely choice in warmer weather.
If you’re walking, you can make your way towards Sutton Cheney via the countryside and canal towpath. We’d recommend walking in daylight only, however, as the final stretch into Sutton Cheney involves a 50mph road. There is a longer detour route that avoids the Fenn Lane – from the canal towpath, past Sutton Wharf, through Ambion Wood to the Battlefield Centre and then take the Centre’s main entrance back out onto the lane and into Sutton Cheney.
And after a leisurely dinner and a glass of wine, we’d definitely suggest getting a taxi back!
Our tip: this is one to book rather than simply turn up, particularly at weekends.
Country dining, a cosy fire and a beautiful countryside setting.

A little further from Hall Farm, but absolutely worth knowing about, is the Horse & Jockey in Congerstone.
This is one for guests looking for something a little more special than a traditional pub dinner. The Horse & Jockey describes itself as “a countryside classic, reimagined”, combining a relaxed pub atmosphere with more refined country dining.
The menu focuses on well-prepared, seasonal dishes, with options ranging from lighter lunchtime bites to more substantial evening meals. There are also pizzas, bar snacks and a Sunday lunch, so it works equally well for a relaxed lunch or a proper dinner.
It’s particularly lovely in the colder months when you can settle down with a drink by the fire, while in warmer weather there’s a garden and terrace to enjoy.
The Horse & Jockey is also perfectly placed for walkers and cyclists, sitting close to the Ashby Canal and the Ivanhoe Way, so it can be combined with a countryside walk before or after lunch.
For couples staying at Hall Farm, we’d put this firmly on the list for a romantic dinner in the Leicestershire countryside.
Our tip: this is one where we’d recommend booking ahead, particularly for a Saturday evening or Sunday lunch. Current food service varies through the week, so check their website before heading over.
And of course, we’re right on the doorstep of Bosworth Battlefield, so history lovers are particularly spoilt here.
Historic pub, restaurant and a great excuse to explore Market Bosworth.

🚶 Around an hour on foot for energetic walkers
If you’re heading into Market Bosworth, The Black Horse is an excellent place to combine lunch or dinner with a wander around the historic market town.
The building itself is Grade II listed, with the earliest part thought to have a possible 16th-century core.
And the pub has plenty of history. The Black Horse was already one of Market Bosworth’s established inns by the early 19th century, and the Market Bosworth Society records landlords there as far back as 1822.
Today it’s rather more glamorous than your average village boozer!
The Black Horse offers an à la carte restaurant with fresh local ingredients, an outdoor terrace, pizza nights and a varied menu. There are also regular specials and occasional tasting menus, making it a good option for a more foodie evening.
Market Bosworth itself is well worth a visit too. Have a wander around the market square, browse the independent shops and cafés, or take a stroll through Market Bosworth Country Park.
It makes a lovely half-day outing from Hall Farm.

While you’re in Market Bosworth, another pub worth knowing about is the Dixie Arms.
This is a Grade II listed pub just off the Market Square, with a traditional bar, restaurant and beer garden.
It’s also steeped in local history. The Dixie Arms is one of the historic inns of Market Bosworth and is closely connected with the Dixie family, whose name you’ll find throughout the area.
Today it offers a more traditional pub experience, with real ales, bar food and restaurant dining. Sunday lunch is also popular.
It’s a good choice if you’re after something a little more relaxed and traditional than a restaurant.
For history, character and a cosy pub atmosphere.

Another Market Bosworth favourite is Ye Olde Red Lion, tucked away on Park Street.
This is the sort of pub that feels wonderfully old-fashioned, with exposed timber, plenty of character and a cosy atmosphere.
The building is thought to date back centuries and was a coaching inn, making it a lovely stop for anyone who enjoys the history that makes this part of Leicestershire so interesting.
It’s also close to the market square, so you can combine a visit with a wander around Market Bosworth.
And if the weather is doing what British weather does best, it’s rather nice to find a cosy corner inside with a drink!
A little further afield for a countryside pub meal.

If you’re happy to drive a little further, the Royal Redgate at Caldecote is another option to add to your local pub list.
Historically a coaching inn on the Watling Street (now A5), it’s a popular traditional pub with a good choice of food and drink and makes a nice option when you’ve already explored the immediate villages around Hall Farm and fancy trying somewhere different.
It’s particularly useful if you’re looking for somewhere for a proper pub meal without going into Hinckley or Nuneaton.
One of the best things about staying at Hall Farm Dadlington is that you don’t necessarily need to get in the car every time you fancy exploring. Guests can walk straight onto the public footpath and Ashby Canal direclty from our farm track.
We’re surrounded by beautiful countryside, the Ashby Canal is nearby and there are walking routes linking Dadlington, Stoke Golding and Sutton Cheney.
You can walk to Stoke Golding, stop for a drink at the George & Dragon or Three Horseshoes, wander along the canal and return to your cosy cabin for a soak in your private hot tub.
Or head to Sutton Cheney, explore the canal and countryside, perhaps stop at the Hercules Revived for lunch, and then return to Hall Farm for an evening under the stars.
And of course, we’re right on the doorstep of Bosworth Battlefield, so history lovers are particularly spoilt here.
