Take a Stroll to The George & Dragon Pub
Who doesn’t love a trip to the local and whilst you’re staying with us, why not take a stroll down to Stoke Golding to enjoy a pint in a quintessentially British pub?
Take a 15-20 min wander with us and spot the donkeys and ducks en route…
Head from Hall Farm, right out of the driveway and up towards the village green. Depending on your footwear, you can either head straight across the green and down the footpath between the houses on the other side, through the paddock where you’ll meet Dave the donkey and his brother. Or you can stay on the road, turning left at the junction, heading up through Dadlington and then take a right at the crossroads down the lane passing the same donkey field and footpath exit as you head down the hill. We often stop and watch the ducks, geese and swans at the Bath Piece, a stretch of the Ashby Canal fondly referred to by locals as “Duck Bend”. You’ll usually see narrow boats moored, and often spot the mighty bull called Solomon on the other side of the road.
Keep walking into the village of Stoke Golding where you’ll see the White Swan pub which is currently undergoing refurbishment and will hopefully be back open soon with big plans for a large restarant and outdoor space. Past the Church of St Margaret (fun fact – Mark and I were married there in 1996!) and round the bend you’ll see the Three Horseshoes and then the George & Dragon at heart of the village.
The George offers a friendly welcome with Church End Brewery ales, real fire and a beer garden, often hosting pop up food vans and live music on weekend evenings. If it’s lunch you’re after, they serve food between 12 and 2.30pm Tuesday – Saturday and it’s always best to book. You can even treat yourself to fantastic sausage rolls, pork pies and scotch eggs at the bar.
Contact The George & Dragon for more information on events, opening times and bookings.
